Green is the opposite of red on the color wheel, so apparently when applied to red oak flooring, it theoretically should neutralize the pink/orange tones and leave you with a beautiful brown rather than enhancing the red. It seemed kinda crazy - obviously I didn't want green floors.

Red Oak really shines with the medium stain colors. There is just a depth of color here that you don't see in something like pine. Again I think these are all really nice options here. Source. Our beams are made of cedar which has more red than this reclaimed white pine. I tested using Minwax again . 1/2 Weathered Oak to 1/2 Classic Gray. 3/4 Classic Gray to 1/4 Jacobean. Jacobean. None of these really gave me the look I wanted from the cedar. Jacobean was way too dark.

Last weekend I rented two floor sanders (orbital and belt). I needed the more aggressive belt sander to get the first few layers off, then the orbital worked well with the finer grits.
